MP of the Party of Regions faction, President's representative in the parliament Yuri Myroshnychneko believes that the church must become moral authority in the society, as he declared during parliamentary hearings on "The state of public morality in Ukraine", ForUm correspondent reports.
"Unfortunately, neither the family, nor educational institutions or work collectives can fully realize the function of formation and support of spiritual core in a man's life. Does our society have an institute which can become a spiritual guide of Ukrainian nations? I believe it does - the church. In my opinion the church is the only one which can save Ukrainians from 'spiritual Chernobyl'," the MP said.
According to Myroshnychenko, the church must enter the educational environment and take the function of education and illumination. At the same time the MP declared he does not demand to cancel the constitutional norm on differentiation of the church from the state.
Myroshnychneko called upon religious figures to take part in the development of a draft bill on freedom of worship and religious organizations. "The closest goal is joint preparation and assistance in adoption of a new variant of the law on freedom of worship and religious organizations, as well as introduction of amendments to a number of laws, which will enable the church to take part in education and life of territorial communities and work collectives.
