President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych declares he has never supported cancellation of benefits for unprotected layers of the population. However, during a press conference in Chernivtsi Yanukovych said he is against "tricks".
"When the law on social benefits was adopted, the living wage was about 170 hryvnias. Now it has increased, and if you calculate eight living wages it will be pretty sum of money. Where should we take this money? I am against cancellation of benefits, but still we have to discuss this issue with public organizations. The majority of such public organizations are ready for a dialogue, but there are some radicals, who demand the fulfillment of the law and period. Such position does not have an answer, because our financial possibilities are limited," Yanukovych told the press.
The President is convinced that annual increase of social benefits by 25% is an optimal decision to settle the issue. "God grant it we could do it every year, he added.
