MP of Ukraine, member of the Party of Regions parliamentary faction, European Integration Committee member Volodymyr Vecherko said the Presidency in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe was an important historical experience for Ukraine. He said it on Monday, November 7, summing up the Presidency of our country in the Committee of Ministers.

According to politician, during its presidency Ukraine confirmed its commitment to the CE aims. "Of particular importance is the fact that the Presidency of Ukraine took place in the time of reform of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and our country joined this process," Volodymyr Vecherko stressed. "It is also important that Ukraine is to pass the Presidency to Britain, the country, which legal traditions are the model for most countries in the world," he added, ForUm learned in the press office of the Party of Regions.

Speaking about the concrete results of our country's Presidency in the CoE Committee of Ministers, parliamentarian said that Ukraine focused priority attention to strengthening and developing local and regional democracy. "With the potential of the Council of Europe as the organization that establishes European standards in all areas, we directed efforts to deepen cooperation between Member States of the Council of Europe in improving the local government functioning," Volodymyr Vecherko informed.

"There were a number of important events, in particular, International Municipal Hearings on the European Strategy for Innovation and Good Governance, international seminar on the introduction of standards of public ethics at local and regional levels, the Bureau of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe meeting and others," MP summed up.
