The National bank of Ukraine is working out a draft bill, according to which it will get a right to introduce moratorium on preterm withdrawal of deposits in case of mass outflow of bank deposits by population, NBU head Serhiy Arbuzov said in an interview with ForUm.
He also informed that on NBU initiative three important draft bills were adopted by the parliament, including on increase of bank transparency, on consolidated supervision and on protection of creditors' rights.
NBU has also developed bills on problematic assets. "We have simplified the procedure of wiping-out of uncollectible debts at the expense of reserves. Legal bills and resolutions on this procedure have already come into force," Arbuzov said.
As a reminder, in autumn 2008 Ukrainian banked faced the problem of mass deposits' withdrawal. As a result, NBU introduced the moratorium on preterm withdrawal from October 2008 till May 2009.
