National projects should stimulate public-private partnership instead of wasting public funds, President Viktor Yanukovych said at today’s enlarged meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The President expressed particular concerns about the project "Affordable Housing". "I demand the Government to immediately solve the problem of coordination between the authorities and provide support to local authorities in this project," he said, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

According to Viktor Yanukovych, special attention should be paid to implementing the "New Life" project, which aims to open a network of modern perinatal centers in the regions of Ukraine. "This national project is significant to evaluate the effectiveness of regional committees of economic reforms. The reforms are going on not in the offices, especially those in Kyiv, but in the regions," he said.

"If there are no results of a reform noticeable to the public, then the reform is not happening or is going in the wrong direction," he said.

The President recalled that new perinatal 8 regions of Ukraine were to get ne perinatal centers in 2011, but only three are ready for opening in Kirovohrad, Kharkiv and Donetsk. Two regions (Zhytomyr, Dnipropetrovsk) will have their centers opened in the first half of 2012.
