At a joint extended meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Committee on Economic Reforms President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has declared that the next year the government will increase social benefits for Chernobyl disaster liquidators by 25%, ForUm correspondent reports.

Yanukovych noted that the matter concerns arrangements of social benefits, not reduction. "We're not planning to reduce any benefits, and we will only improve them, and this means that we have set ourselves the goal to protect vulnerable categories of people," he said.

The President also criticized the officials for not being able to explain the policy of the government to the people.

Yanukovych noted that state budget revenues for next year would grow by 12%, whereas the level of the social protection of the public would be raised by 25%.

"This is a good approach, and the government will realize this norm," Yanukovych promised.
