It is necessary to improve the work to promote children adoption in our country, President Viktor Yanukovych said at today’s nationwide meeting on children’s rights protection. He said he is concerned about the situation in social protection of orphans and children deprived of parental care, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

"We should improve the work, overcome stereotypes in such a sensitive area as adoption, better inform citizens, engage the media in this noble cause more effectively," he said. He added that, unfortunately, over the past two years the number of children adopted by the citizens of Ukraine has been falling continuously.

"We must do everything so that every child deprived of parental care, regardless of age and health, was adopted by citizens of Ukraine and stayed in Ukraine," he said.

According to Viktor Yanukovych, it is also necessary to review the practice of social support for families raising children with disabilities or those in need of special government support for other reasons.

Currently, the question of such families receiving state financial aid has been settled, President Yanukovych said. "The next step would be enhancing psychological and pedagogical support of these families," Viktor Yanukovych said.
