Within the preparation of agreements on free trade area Ukraine agreed with the EU on annual duty-free import of about 48 thousand cars produced in the EU, Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola said Monday at a meeting with the head of the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) Yves van der Straaten.

"Our customers should be able to buy any car. And our auto industry must rise to the level of international manufacturers and to compete worthy with them. We negotiated with the EU within establishment of the FTA and agreed on duty-free importation of about 48 thousand cars per year," Mykola Azarov said, ForUm learned from the press office of the Cabinet.

He stressed that this number corresponds to the traditional pre-crisis volume of imports in 2005-2007. He also promised that the Government strongly promotes the development of Ukrainian automobile industry and foreign investment in this sector.
