President Viktor Yanukovych believes it is important that middle class is developing in Ukraine, he said while talking to JSC “Podilsk Cement" employees in the village of Humentsi, Khmelnytskyi region, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

"The middle class should be developing - it will be just social policy," the President said. He reiterated that the main purpose of Ukraine’s government is to overcome poverty. In this regard, Viktor Yanukovych noted that unemployment has been reducing and economic situation improving recently in Ukraine.

The President also expressed confidence that the state should review the mechanism of social benefits, as the one currently operating "makes people dependent on the state, humiliates them."

Viktor Yanukovych also drew attention to the importance of increasing pensions and minimum wages. "It is important to make sure that pensions and minimum wages allow people to live with dignity," he said.
