Presently, the quality of drinking water in Ukraine corresponds to the norms, Anatoly Blyznyuk, minister for regional development and housing and public utilities, told a board meeting on legal activities in the sphere of water relations, ForUm correspondent reports.

"The water does not correspond to European quality, but corresponds to the standards," he said in particular.

The minister agreed with Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka on that the situation with water is unsatisfactory and admitted responsibility of his ministry. "The government allocated only two milliard hryvnias, while the ministry needs 27 milliards to carry out all decrees and bills. I mentioned this amount for the draft state budget for 2012. Though I am sure we won't be given such money, they must understand that if nothing is done the situation will get worse," the minister said.

Anatoly Blyznyuk also informed that his department has worked out new state norms taking into account European standards.
