The government of Ukraine studies possibilities to avoid paying debts of the Common energy systems of Ukraine to Defense Ministry of Russia, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov told a press conference in Boryspil, ForUm correspondent reports.
"Defense Ministry of Russia delivered a letter with a demand to restitute 405 million USD of debt of the Common energy systems of Ukraine, once headed by well-known ex-Premier Tymoshenko. Russia explains that due to the debt negotiation the right of debt claiming has been transferred from the private company to the state. The government charged lawyers and law enforcement bodies to look into this question. We are waiting for a conclusion of competent organs to decide what to do next," Azarov said.
Azarov also underlined that 405 million USA is big money, especially in such difficult economic situation. "The same amount has been provided by the state budget for social and economic development of the country in 2012," the PM summed up.
