"This visit is long expected, welcomed, and opens a new chapter in our bilateral intergovernmental dialogue. The visit is happening at an important time for Ukraine – Ukraine is preparing to sign the Association Agreement and the agreement on a deep and comprehensive free trade area," President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych said welcoming President of Slovenia Danilo Turk in Ukraine.
"I am very grateful for Slovenia’s strong support for Ukraine’s European integration aspirations. We are also grateful to the President of Slovenia for the expressed desire to complete the process of introducing visa-free travel for Ukraine as soon as possible. It is very important for our country in terms of human contacts with our partners – the EU countries," Yanukovych said.
Ukraine and Slovenia should actively develop interregional cooperation, President Yanukovych said at a press conference following the Ukrainian-Slovenian talks.
“I believe that the expansion of regional cooperation between Ukraine and Slovenia is another potential reserve we should be using in our trade and economic relations, and certainly in the matters of the future – that is European integration," Viktor Yanukovych said.
He also recalled that on the eve of the visit of President Danilo Turk to Ukraine, a meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation was held that summed up the work to promote bilateral cooperation.
"Today, while discussing this question, we have conclude that our countries have great potential to enhance trade and economic cooperation, and raise the level of trade turnover that remains on the brink of approximately 200 million euros," President Yanukovych said.
