To successfully overcome the global economic crisis, Ukraine and Greece should strengthen their cooperation. It has been stated by the President in the course of extensive Ukrainian-Greek negotiations headed by the two Presidents, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

According to the President, both Ukraine and Greece are suffering hard times nowadays, thus, the intensification of bilateral cooperation becomes increasingly important. “There is a great desire to help each other. That is why I am confident that the time has come to improve coordination of our actions,” President Viktor Yanukovych noted.

“Indisputably, large-scale reforms implemented in Ukraine today help to overcome the crisis. In 2010 we managed to reduce the budget deficit from 14% to 5%, and we are planning to finish 2011 with not more than 3.5%,” the President noted.

President Karolos Papoulias evaluated Ukrainian-Greek relations as “excellent”. “Your visit gives a new boost for the development of our bilateral relations. We may say that 2011 is a year for new meetings and reviving of our bilateral ties,” he said.

The meeting between the two Presidents in “vis-a-vis” format has lasted more than an hour instead of planned 20 minutes. “It has been a very important, friendly and useful meeting for all of us,” the President of Hellenic Republic noted in the course of delegations’ talks.
