The Zenit-3SLB carrier rocket has been successfully launched from the Baikonur spaceport. This is the fifth start as part of the Land Launch mission, according to the department of marketing communications at Yuzhmash, Ukraine's leading machine-building plant based in Dnipropetrovsk.

This time the Zenit 3SLB orbited the Intelsat-18 satellite produced by the US-based Orbital Sciences Corporation, with whom Yuzhmash has been actively cooperating under the Taurus-2 project.

Intelsat-18 has a launch weight of 3,200 kg. The spacecraft will provide telecommunications services in the United States, Australia, French Polynesia and other regions. Its term of service is 15 years.

The Zenit-2SB rocket was developed by the Yuzhnoye State Design Office, and is produce at the state-controlled enterprise "Production Association Southern Machine-Building Plant" (both - Dnipropetrovsk, east of Ukraine).
