MP of Ukraine, member of the Party of Regions parliamentary faction, PACE Vice President from Ukraine Ivan Popescu said that during expert discussions before the Eastern Partnership Summit Ukraine received two signals more concerning joining the European Union.

"In particular, in his speech, Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Nick Clegg has clearly expressed for further expansion of the European Union and also against the Brussels’ plan to take a break after Croatia’s joining the European community," the politician noted, ForUm learned from the press office of the Party of Regions.

According to Ivan Popescu, Vice Prime Minister of the United Kingdom said that official London does not consider the "Eastern Partnership" as alternative to EU membership.

"This means that Ukraine has all chances while initialling the document on Association in December this year to get a direct link concerning prospects for EU membership," the parliamentarian said.

"The second signal Ukraine received during expert discussions before Eastern Partnership Summit from the European Union Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Füle. He stressed that in a result of recent Neighbourhood Policy review, the EU in future negotiations with the "Eastern Partnership" countries will make reference to Art. 49 of the EU treaty. It is known that the European Parliament when discussing the prospects of the Association Agreement between EU and Ukraine, gave the signal for Ukraine concerning possible reference to this article. This means that Ukraine has real chances in the future to get perspective of membership in the European Union," Ivan Popescu summed up.
