Decriminalization of economic crimes will promote the introduction of European standards in the sphere of criminal justice, President's representative in the parliament Yuri Myroshnychenko said, commenting on the presidential draft bill on decriminalization of economic crimes, submitted to the parliament.

Myroshnychenko noted that successful experience of European countries proves effectiveness of the decriminalization of economic crimes, ForUm learned from the presidential press office.

"If punishment gets replaced with fine exceeding caused damage, it would be a good lesson for offender and the state will get compensation," he explained.

Myroshnychenko also noted that the amendments to the Criminal Code provides for abolishment of 18 articles in order to prevent corruption in the law enforcement bodies. The draft bill also proposes to limit detention measure replacing it with bail.
