Ukraine and Russia have agreed to start negotiations on the revision of 2009 gas contracts, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said at the meeting with a delegation of Spanish senators.

"After long negotiations it was finally agreed with the Russian Federation to revise contracts on gas supply and gas transit," said Mykola Azarov, commenting on the talks between presidents Yanukovych adnd Medvedev.

Head of Government added that the Russian side agreed with the Ukrainian proposal to create a tripartite gas transportation consortium Ukraine-Russia-European Union, which will enable to increase reliability of energy transportation to Europe.

Spanish parliamentarian Luis Fraga, in turn, emphasized that trilateral consortium will allow, in particular, Spanish companies to participate in the Ukrainian GTS modernization.

"This trilateral cooperation in the format of Ukraine-Russia-Europe creates opportunities for Spanish companies to participate in modernization of the Ukrainian gas transport system," the Spanish parliamentarian noted.
