Ukraine and the United States should expand the framework of cooperation, and the visit of President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych to the United States will contribute to it, stated MP of Ukraine, member of the Party of Regions parliamentary faction, First Deputy Chairman of the parliamentary Committee on European Integration, Head of International Fund "European Development" Volodymyr Vecherko.

In his opinion, bilateral relations between Ukraine and the United States have great potential and are essential for both sides, as ForUm learned from the press office of the Party of Regions.

"The importance of Ukraine's relations with the United States is due to, firstly, that in general terms the United States remains the most powerful country in the world, and, secondly, that the U.S. is the guarantor of independence, sovereignty and integrity of the borders of our country," politician says.

Besides, Volodymyr Vecherko said the United States is the largest donor country of technical assistance to Ukraine.

"Total U.S. assistance to our country since 1992 amounted to more than $ 3 billion, what is more than the sum of donor countries for the period. According to the U.S. State Department, on the program of technical assistance to Ukraine in 2009 were allocated $ 89.5 million, in 2010 - $ 118.9 million, in 2011 - $ 124, 4 million," MP said.

He said that partnership with the U.S. in energy sector is important too.

"The priority for the Ukrainian side is attracting U.S. investment, as well as unique technologies, particularly for production of hydrocarbon deposits in the Ukrainian sea shelf, and assessing the prospects of mining in Ukraine of the shale gas methane of the coal fields," he explains.

All these facts lead to the need to deepen cooperation between our countries, said the MP.
