On September 19 President Viktor Yanukovych instructed Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and Foreign Intelligence Service Chairman Grygoriy Illiashov to take all measures necessary to protect the rights and lawful interests of the Ukrainian citizens detained in Libya, presidential press office reported.

According to Presidential Administration Chief of Staff Serhiy Liovochkin, the issue of providing safety of the detained fellow countrymen and their soonest release is under special control of the President.

Given the fact that the active phase of armed confrontation in Libya has ended, President Viktor Yanukovych has instructed the Government to work out the question of providing Libya with humanitarian, as well as inviting armed conflict victims to Ukraine for treatment.

The Ukrainian side intends to contribute actively to the people of Libya reconstructing their country. Specifically for this purpose, in the framework of his visit to New York the President will take part in the second Friends of Libya conference. The invitation to take part in the conference indicates the recognition of Ukraine’s role as international security contributor, Serhiy Lyovochkin said.
