If Ukrainian air carriers do not revise their pricing policy, we will be forced to open the market to western airlines, Vice Premier and Minister of Infrastructure Borys Kolesnykov warned.

“A return ticket Kyiv-Donetsk of the Ukrainian airlines, such as AeroSvit, DonbasAero and DniproAvia costs UAH 3,500 ( about 400 USD). Such fares are unheard of in Europe… If the airlines continue such a policy, we will have no other choice but to open the market 100%. Then western companies will be free to fly from one Ukrainian city to another, which will result in unemployment for our pilots, stewardesses and the land services,” Kolesnykov said.

Minister said the government would negotiate on lowering fares for domestic airlines by the end of the year. Kolesnykov also said that in 2012 the government plans to purchase 10 Ukrainian aircraft and convey them to domestic airline companies.
