Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has told the Ukrainian community in Turkmenistan that Ukraine will remain stable. The head of state commented on the situation in Ukraine after laying flowers at the monument to Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko in Ashgabat.

Yanukovych noted that Ukraine was going through serious systemic reform. While speaking about the political situation in the country, he said that all branches of government were working smoothly for the first time in the entire period of Ukraine's independence.

Yanukovych said that Ukraine would be guided, first and foremost, by the principle of national pragmatism in its foreign policy.

He also informed representatives of the Ukrainian community in Turkmenistan about Ukraine's preparations for Euro 2012 and invited them to come to Ukraine to personally see the positive changes taking place in the country, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

Yanukovych also laid flowers at Turkmenistan's Monument of Independence. He then planted a tree in the Alley of Honorary Guests and visited the National Museum of Turkmenistan.

Yanukovych also commemorated the first president of Turkmenistan by laying flowers at the mausoleum of Saparmurat Niyazov.
