Hero of Ukraine, member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, renown literary critic, public and cultural figure Ivan Dziuba is convinced that the criminal case against former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko was falsified.
“My overall impression of the trial is one of sadness. When the Soviet authorities sentenced me for my work “Internationalism or Russification?” at least they stuck to the law. The nature of these laws is another story. Of course the case was political, but the court followed the letter of the law. The court today is not only falsifying this case, but ignoring the law completely. The whole civilized world has recognized that the case against Tymoshenko is political. They are fighting Tymoshenko because she is the main opposition figure,” said Ivan Dziuba, who came to the Pechersk District Court to support Yulia Tymoshenko.
Ivan Dziuba called the trial against Yulia Tymoshenko unlawful and not transparent. “If the government wanted to launch a war against corruption, as they say, they should have begun with real corruptionists, not Tymoshenko. And this must all be done publicly and according to the law. What we see is political persecution worse than in Soviet times,” he said, Tymoshenko's official website reported.
