The removal of dangerous hexachlorobenzene waste from a disposal area has resumed in Kalush, Ivano-Frankivsk region, west of Ukraine. This year it is planned to remove 7,500 tons of toxic waste.

The dispatch of the first batch is slated for late September 2011, the Ministry of Environmental Protection said in a statement, according to UKRINFORM.

The removal and disposal of hexachlorobenzene is co-financed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the State Fund for Environmental Protection and the Reserve Fund of the state budget.

The dangerous waste moves from Ukraine to Great Britain to be disposed at a special plant.

In 2010 the authorities declared Kalush and the nearby villages of Kropyvnyk and Sivka-Kaluska in Kalush district as an environmental disaster zone for 90 days.
