Ukraine will fulfill all its obligations to provide the transit of Russian gas to European consumers, regardless of the outcome of negotiations with Russia to revise the gas contract, Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Boiko said Thursday at a joint meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister Viktor Maiko with representatives of the diplomatic corps accreted in Ukraine.

Boiko assured foreign diplomats that Ukraine continues to actively develop international cooperation in the energy sector and remains a reliable energy transit country to Europe.

"Ukraine has witnessed his commitment to integration with the European Union in the energy sector: it has become a full member of the Energy Community and will conduct comprehensive work to bring the energy sector in line with European requirements. Ukraine has always been and will be a reliable transit country of energy resources to Europe," he said, UKRINFORM reported.

Minister Boiko also said that Ukraine is making every effort to resolve the gas issues with Russia. He emphasized that the amendments to the contract of 2009 to reduce the price of Russian gas for Ukraine is the principled stand of President Viktor Yanukovych.
