The gas agreements between Russia and Ukraine do not need "external audit", and any attempts to call them into question are legally unjustified, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement commenting on Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, who proposed that the European Commission could carry out an audit of gas agreements between Moscow and Kiev on the grounds that it had advised both parties at the time the gas deals were concluded.

“The extremely clear legal framework of the matter does not require any external audit, and should be understood by all those interested in ensuring European energy security,” the ministry said.
