Ukraine hopes to find a compromise with Russia on the gas issue without bringing the matter to court, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryshchenko said at a press conference in Moscow on Monday after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"There is always a group of people interested in the consideration of cases in the courts. These are lawyers. We will do everything we can to make their life easier and find a solution through bilateral talks," Hryshchenko said, UKRINFORM reported.

Lavrov, in turn, said that Russia was ready to defend its interests in court. "The press secretary of the president said on his behalf that we are ready to defend our position in any international court," Lavrov said.

Hryshchenko will attend a meeting of the sub-commission on international cooperation of the Ukrainian-Russian interstate commission in Moscow on September 5. Problems in the stationing of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Crimea and the demarcation of the border between Ukraine and Russia will be discussed at the meeting.

In addition, the Ukrainian foreign minister will visit the Library of Ukrainian Literature to present it with books on the history and culture of Ukraine.
