President Viktor Yanukovych took part in a Summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States in Dushanbe.
The Summit was opened by CIS Heads of State Council Chairman, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon (Tajikistan presides in the Commonwealth of Independent States since 1 January 2011). "It is remarkable that the meeting takes place in Dushanbe in the year of the 20th anniversary of the Commonwealth," he said.
During the meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council in a narrow circle, its members heard a Statement by the Heads of States of the CIS in connection with the 20th anniversary of its creation, and an analytical report on the results of work of the Commonwealth during these 20 years and its future tasks.
In addition, the decision was made that from 1 January 2012, Turkmenistan will be presiding in the CIS Heads of State Council. Those present have supported the initiative of the Presiden of Turkmenistan to hold the next meeting of the CIS Concil in Ashgabat in early November 2012.
