President Viktor Yanukovych has met Royal Dutch Shell Chief Executive Officer Peter Voser.

"During the meeting we have discussed an agreement signed today between Shell and the Ukrainian side. Besides, we have also discussed the production of shale gas," Peter Voser said.

“Shell is interested in such a cooperation. On our part we intend to provide the capabilities of our company’s experts and the technology we possess, in order to intensify and expand energy production in Ukraine," Royal Dutch Shell CEO said.

On September 1 2011, Ukraine and Royal Dutch Shell have signed an agreement on joint search for and development of hydrocarbons in the Dmipro-Donets Basin. Royal Dutch Shell will invest $800 million in geological exploration and production of shale gas in eastern Ukraine, Energy Minister Yury Boyko said on Wednesday.

"The investment will reach $800 million. This is the first significant joint agreement which gives us an opportunity to increase gas production in our country in the nearest future," Boyko said after signing the contract between Shell and Ukraine's Naftogaz energy company.
