Ukraine is marking Knowledge Day on September 1 with the school bell ringing again to launch the new academic year for all those who this year will be "hitting the books".
A total of 4,200 million pupils go to school this year, of them 416,000 are first grade pupils, UKRINFORM reports.
As previously reported, most secondary schools are ready for the school year: maintenance was carried out for 16,749 educational institutions, overhaul - 2,058. All schools are staffed with teaching personnel and have the necessary textbooks. Preparations for the heating season also does not raise concern.
Earlier, Minister of Education and Science, Youth and Sports Dmytro Tabachnyk said that parents of first graders will be given a day off on September 1, since this day, according to him, is a real festive, a family holiday, and the families of first-graders will hold it together.
Officially, Knowledge Day was established by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR on November 1, 1984.
