Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has voiced hope that gas deals with Russia would be revised through negotiations, he told reporters in Kharkiv region Tuesday.

"We are still configured to hold talks with the Russian Federation. We have a lot of those areas in which we cooperate," Azarov emphasized, UKRINFORM reported. Therefore, he said, both sides are not interested in conflict situations.

The prime minister said that he supports the negotiations on terms of equality, respect. "So that our partners listen to our arguments. And our arguments are serious," the prime minister noted.

As previously reported, at the Ukrainian-Russian economic forum Azarov said that the existing gas contracts in the future will undermine the foundations of long-term cooperation between Ukraine and Russia.

Later, Azarov said that the Ukrainian side had consulted on the possibility of breaking the gas agreement with Russia, and reiterated that the so-called "Belarusian scenario" of gas cooperation is not suitable to Kyiv.
