The authorities should not interfere in the work of courts, President Viktor Yanukovych told journalists in the Rivne region, responding to a question about the course of Yulia Tymoshenko trial. "Our discussions of this matter with anyone will not affect the court decision. And it is a European norm, the norm of democratic countries: the government must not interfere in the judicial system. And it is also my principled position," Viktor Yanukovych said.

He expressed confidence that the new Criminal Procedure Code will improve the overall situation, particularly equalizing the defense and the prosecution in their rights. "I am convinced that the new Criminal Procedure Code, which is now pending the expert analysis in international institutions, including the Venice Commission, will improve the situation in general in the criminal-procedural issues," the President of Ukraine said.
