In its relations with any other country, including with Russia, Ukraine will always be guided by its national interests, President Viktor Yanukovych stressed, answering journalists' questions during his visit to Donetsk.

"We have our own position, which provides for the protection of Ukrainian national interests. We proclaimed the policy of national pragmatism and we will follow it," he said.

Of course, there has always been and will be differences in positions on some issues, but in such cases, obviously, we should look for compromises, President Yanukovych said. "The policy of compromises allows us to defend our national interests, making concessions in some areas, but these concessions will never be at the expense of the sovereignty of Ukraine," he said.
