The Ukrainian government and the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine ensuring its activities should conduct a state and responsible policy, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said, while congratulating employees of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, according to the government portal.
"The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Secretariat should conduct a state and responsible policy," Azarov said, adding that "the time of making empty promises has passed," UKRINFORM reported.
The prime minister said that today, for the first time over the 20 years of Ukraine's history, there was a situation when the government is consolidated. "Now there is a policy of the president, there is an executive body - the government that implements this policy, there is a majority in the Verkhovna Rada, which implements this policy through legislative mechanisms, and there are the heads of local state administrations," Azarov said. The premier also added: "Perhaps, the system is not always working properly, but it is united, because nobody is fighting and engaging in intrigues, as was the case earlier."
The prime minister said that the economic situation was controlled and that the government was prepared for possible global risks: "We know how to respond to the risks that we are facing." And this, in his opinion, means that the economy is developing steadily, and "the social guarantees of citizens will be raised on the basis of economic development." "And this is the right way. There's no other way. We have the most optimistic prospects," he said.
Azarov said that unfortunately, over the 20 years of Ukraine's independence, the ruling elite had failed to conduct the necessary reforms to ensure that Ukraine becomes a European country. "Only last year could be characterized by the fact that the president and the government assumed responsibility for the holding of serious and necessary reforms in the country. And a small part of the reforms conducted had a positive effect on the development of society and economy," he said.
Azarov also said that Ukraine had become a full subject of international relations. "Ukraine has established itself as a state. We clearly understand what our interests are like, and we are clearly defending them," the prime minister said.
