Judge Rodion Kireyev of the Pechersk District Court has denied the
defense’s ninth request to change the measure of restraint imposed on
former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
"The defendant isn’t responding to remarks and orders of the
presiding judge. The court doesn’t see any reason to change the measure
of restraint," the judge said, according to Tymoshenko's official website.
The judge then adjourned the trial until 2 pm on Tuesday, August 23.
Today Yulia Tymoshenko’s defense lawyer Oleksandr Plakhotnyuk asked
the court to release the ex-premier, highlighting the numerous bail
guarantees sent to the court from members of parliament, religious
figures, business owners, cultural and public figures, etc.
Meanwhile, lawyer Yuriy Sukhov pointed out that there is no reason
to keep Yulia Tymoshenko in custody at this point. "As of today, all the
witnesses have been questioned. In the arrest order it says that Yulia
Tymoshenko was interfering in the interrogation of witnesses. This
reason no longer exists," he said.
