President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych is confident  the assessment of events that took place in Ukrainian history should be made by historians, he said in an interview during a working visit to the Kherson region. "I have repeatedly said that it is important that history was assessed by its contemporaries and historians," he said.

When asked about the decision of the Supreme Administrative Court on the illegality of conferring Roman Shukhevych and Stepan Bandera the titles of Hero of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych stressed that he "has never questioned decisions of any courts." "Order in the state will be only when the whole society has the same attitude to that," Viktor Yanukovych said. Irreversibility of punishment and presumption of innocence are the two pillars that the rule of law stands on.

"If we look into the past of our history and be building our future on the past history, in which there were many contradictions, we will be robbing our future. And that would be wrong," he said.
