By signing the agreement with the WTO, Ukraine has committed itself not to promote export of agricultural products through compensations, which now places it to the worse market conditions than Europe and the USA, Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Prysiazhniuk said during an online conference, according to UKRINFORM.

"When we signed a protocol to the WTO agreement, we have made commitments not to stimulate exports of our agricultural products through compensations. European countries, America and other countries have such opportunities. They motivate agricultural export through subsidies per 1 kg of exports, including meat. And believe me, it's a lot of money, about 100-130 euros/ton of meat," the minister stressed.

According to him, unlike in other countries Ukraine has low taxes on meat group, less than 10%. Import meat to some extent is cheaper. But this year, imports of meat decreased almost twice after 500 tons previously.

However, it is impossible to change the situation in favor of Ukrainian producers, the official added. "We have repeatedly asked the WTO headquarters to revise these conditions, but the headquarters refused us," he explained.

However, the ministry is now developing agreements that provide for the complete elimination of export subsidies around the world. A meeting dedicated to these issues is scheduled for 2012. "If this agreement is approved, then we will be more or less in market conditions," Prysiazhniuk underscored
