A powerful explosion rocked the Sukhodilsk-Eastern mine in Ukraine's eastern Luhansk region early Friday, killing 16 workers, and two workers were hospitalized with burns, while 10 remained missing, emergency officials said.

The blast hit the mine at about 2 a.m. local time Friday, July 29, at a depth of 915 meters (0.6 miles), the Emergencies Ministry said.  28 miners have been working in the mine at the time of the accident. As of 7 a.m., 16 miners are killed, 2 are hospitalized with burns and injured, and other 10 miners are missing.

President Viktor Yanukovych delivered his condolences to the families of those killed and has ordered the government to form a commission to investigate the cause of an explosion, president's press office informed.

President Yanukovych also ordered to provide assistance to the families of the people killed and suffered after a deadly blast at the mine.
