Yulia Tymoshenko’s lawyer Serhiy Vlasenko says the office of the Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Commissioner has not responded to their request sent last week for Nina Karpachova to become an independent participant in the trial against the former Ukrainian prime minister.

“The fact that nobody from her office is coming here, at least under the appropriate authority, means that Karpachova has decided to distance herself from the trial and not participate, which seems logical to us,” Serhiy Vlasenko said before the start of today’s hearing, according to Tymoshenko's official website.

He pointed out that Nina Karpachova was a top candidate for parliament from the Party of Regions. “Despite Karpachova’s attempt to maintain a neutral line, we remember that she’s a member of the top five of the Party of Regions and, judging by everything, she had to refuse to participate in this trial, although it’s obvious that the participation in this case of the Ombudsman or a representatives is essential,” he stressed.
