The U.S. company filed a claim versus ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine, leader of the Batkivshchyna Party Yulia Tymoshenko demanding to repay debts of Unified Energy Systems of Ukraine (UESU) to the amount of USD 18.3 million.

As UKRINFORM reports with reference to Kyiv Post, the statement of claim was presented by U.S. Company Universal Trading & Investment Co., Inc (UTICo) to the court of New York in early July. The UTICo tries through Tymoshenko to achieve payment of the UESU debt, which in the 1990ies was a mediator in the sale of the Central Asian and Russian gas to Ukraine and Eastern Europe and headed by Tymoshenko for a certain period of time. The UTICo also accuses her of concealment of UESU profits and assets from creditors, withdrawing them to off-shore zones under her personal control.

First Deputy Prosecutor General Renat Kuzmin has said on July 21 that the public prosecution office has proofs of withdrawing the UESU profits from gas trade to off-shore zones.

The UTICo claim notes that Yulia Tymoshenko hampered the recovery of debts from the UESU and adds that according to the laws of New York, the judgement debt can be recovered from a person, who has the debtor's money. UTICo considers Yulia Tymoshenko to be such a person.

MP Serhiy Vlasenko, who is engaged in the legal issues in the BYuT, could not comment on this claim versus Tymoshenko in the U.S court, explaining that due to judicial peripeteia in Ukraine he could not familiarize with the claim.

Former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is accused of abuse of power during the signature of gas contracts with Russia in 2009. According to the materials of the case, Tymoshenko in signing of agreements with Russia for gas supply in 2009 has inflicted damage to the state to the amount over UAH 1.5 billion (1USD - 7.97 UAH).
