The European Union has not changed its obligations as regards modernization of the Ukrainian gas transportation system. This issue was discussed in the press release of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, spread due to appearance of information in mass media about the allegedly lost interest of the EU to modernization of the Ukrainian gas transportation system.

The EU states that jointly with three international financial institutions that it has not changed its decision to help Ukraine in modernization of its gas transportation system, in the reform of the Ukrainian gas sector and raising financial transparency of NJSC Naftogaz, in compliance with legal obligations, taken by Ukraine during its Energy Community accession (in February 2011).

The EU Delegation to Ukraine reminds that within the frames of the Neighborhood Investment Facility (NIF), the EU presently finances technical, ecological and social studies, which are needed by those three international financial institutions (World Bank, European Investment Bank and EBRD). Those studies also include estimation of the first phase of renewal of the gas pipeline Urengoy-Uzhhorod. It is expected that those studies will be completed this autumn, the press release says.

The EU also extended technical aid to Ukraine for ensuring financial transparency of the NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, which will allow international financial institutions, no later than by the end of this year, to positively solve an issue of extending the first credits for the Ukrainian gas transportation system modernization.
