Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko has said that representatives of her political force will lodge an appeal with the Constitutional Court, challenging the constitutionality of the government’s pension reform law.

"Our political force, our faction will ask the Constitutional court to repeal the illegally adopted law on pension reform. This doesn’t mean that we naively claim that the Constitutional Court, which today is a department of the presidential administration, will issue a just ruling. Unfortunately, justice doesn’t exist any longer in Ukraine," Yulia Tymoshenko told journalists today, according to her official website.

According to the law on pension reform adopted last night by the Verkhovna Rada in the second reading, the retirement age for women will increase to 60. Years of work experience will increase to 30 for women and 35 for men. The retirement age for male civil servants increases to 63. Pensions for people who have become disabled and unable to work are capped at 7640 hryvnnias. The law also reduces from 90% to 80% the salary levels used to calculate pensions for civil servants.
