President Viktor Yanukovych has formed the Interdepartmental Working Group for Analyzing Observation of the Freedom of Speech and Protection of Journalists Legislation. The Working Group has been established to guarantee citizens’ constitutional rights to freedom of speech and protection of journalists' rights. The Working Group will be promptly considering violations of freedom of speech and protection of journalists' rights legislation, and submitting its proposals to the President of Ukraine. 

The Working Group includes representatives of the Presidential Administration, Prosecutor General’s Office, Ministry of Interior, Department of the State Guard, public organizations: the Institute of Mass Information, Reporters without Borders, "Telekrytyka" publication. 

Also, the group includes State Committee on Television and Radio Broadcasting Chairman Oleksandr Kurdynovych, Presidential Administration Main Office for Providing Access to Public Information Head Denys Ivanesko, National Union of Journalists of Ukraine Chairman Ihor Lubchenko. Chief editor of the Ukrayinska Pravda Internet news agency Olena Prytula, First Deputy Chairman of Parliamentary Committee on Freedom of Speech, MP Olena Bondarenko.

At its first meeting the Working Group will consider the information provided in their letters to the President of Ukraine by National Union of Journalists of Ukraine Chairman Ihor Lubchenko and chief editor of the Ukrayinska Pravda Olena Prytula. 

"The Working Group will be functioning openly. Its work will be another step in the program of action “Open Discussion", the aim of which is to discuss all the problems of journalists in Ukraine honestly and openly. I invite all the journalists and the public to take part of the working group, as its meetings will be held openly," Press Secretary of the President of Ukraine Darya Chepak said, who also chairs the Workng Group.
