Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryshchenko, together with Cypriot President Demetris Christofias, attended the opening ceremony of the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Ukraine, UKRINFORM reported.

According to the Foreign Ministry's information policy department, Hryshchenko and Christofias stressed the importance of establishing the diplomatic institution of Cyprus for further development of relations between the two countries, and reaffirmed their readiness to deepen bilateral cooperation in all spheres of mutual interest.

As Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Lytvyn said during his meeting with the President of Cyprus, opening a diplomatic mission in Kyiv is a significant step towards the development and improvement of relations with Ukraine.

He also stressed that further development of economic cooperation would be promoted by the activity of the Ukrainian-Cypriot intergovernmental commission on economic, scientific, technical, humanitarian and cultural cooperation.
