Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko and her defense have asked
the court to provide time for lawyer Mykola Tytarenko to review the
materials in the criminal case brought against the former prime minister
of Ukraine over gas contracts signed in 2009.
"Since I did not have the opportunity to review the case materials, in accordance with articles 48, 253, 288, section 3 of article 365 of the Criminal Procedure Code, please allow one month for familiarization with the case materials, since I was given this opportunity by the court only on June 30 at 19:00. Without review, I can not perform my function effectively. Please consider this petition and grant it," said Mykola Tytarenko, according to Tymoshenko's official website.
In her turn, Yulia Tymoshenko stressed that the court must allow time to review the case file. "We were under time pressure to ensure quality defense. A lawyer needs to read, analyze, prepare the necessary petitions, order examinations so that the defense is able to withstand such trials," she said.
"I insist that according to section 2 of article 289 of the Criminal Procedure Code, Mykola Tytarenko and we be given a month to review the case file," said Yulia Tymoshenko.
