The European Union is planning to provide EUR 12 million until 2016 for the development of tourism and social infrastructure in Crimea (southern Ukraine).

Respective financial assistance is envisaged in the program entitled "Support to the Joint Cooperation Initiative in Crimea," which was presented in Kyiv, UKRINFORM reports.

Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira said that the initiative was a continuation of the previous program, which was launched two years ago.

"Our main goal was to promote the economic development of Crimea, raise living standards and support direct contacts between residents of Crimea and the EU," he said.

The funds will be distributed between the Crimean Resorts and Tourism Ministry and the Crimean regional office of the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund.
