After 15 years since the adoption of the Constitution of Ukraine it is necessary to review, which of its norms are working, and which are not, and make the appropriate amendments to the Basic Law, President Viktor Yanukovych said in an interview to leading Ukrainian media.

At the same time, any changes to the Constitution must be adopted only in a lawful manner, he said. "Any changes to the Constitution must be done in a lawful manner. And this is important," Viktor Yanukovych said.

In this context, the President also stressed the need for adopting the laws promoting observation of the Constitution, particularly the legislation on human rights.

Among such laws Viktor Yanukovych named the Criminal Procedure Code.

"The principle of equality of plaintiff and defense is now missing. The prosecution has huge advantage and the defense has much less rights," he said and expressed hope that the draft Criminal Procedure Code would soon be submitted to the Parliament.
