The Ukrainian Emergencies Ministry has suspended tourist trips to the Chornobyl exclusion zone through travel operators, the ministry's press service has reported.

"This decision is linked to the fact that the Prosecutor General's Office protested a ministry order approving the procedure for visiting the exclusion zone. The procedure defined the rules of travel to the Chornobyl zone, the routes for visitors, the time of stay in the zone, appearance, etc," reads the statement.

The Emergencies Ministry said that it considered its order to be legal. "It was registered at the Justice Ministry and agreed with a number of interested government agencies, in particular, the Security Service, the Health Ministry, the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation, and the Foreign Ministry," reads the statement.

A court will take a final decision on the issue.
