Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko believes the main reason for
the criminal case against her over 2009 gas contracts is the desire by
the government to give a reason for their neglect of Ukraine’s national
interests.
"Today the gas crisis is being forced in order to give reason for giving up our national interests," Yulia Tymoshenko said today on TVi, according to the official website.
In her opinion, the government is deliberately forcing the issue of gas contracts her government signed with Russia in 2009. "They’re deliberately created a gas problem in order to use this to surrender Ukraine’s national interests – the Black Sea Fleet, land in Sevastopol, next will be the gas transport system, then the joint production of strategic oil and gas reserves of our Black Sea shelf, but not in the interests of Ukraine," she said.
"The gas issue is a front for them to say: ‘well, you see how high the price is (for gas), so let’s drop it by $100 but give up Sevastopol," she said.
