Batkivshchyna Party leader and former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said she was not involved in the illegal purchase of vaccines to fight the flu epidemic in 2009.

"I want to remind you that I worked in a coalition government and that the minister of health was appointed under Yushchenko’s quota: Mr. Mytnyk was responsible for procuring medicine and everything else for the ministry of health, and he was appointed by Yushchenko as Azarov’s person in our government. And you know that after Yanukovych became president, Mr. Mytnyk, who was responsible for making these purchases at the proposal of Azarov, was appointed minister of health," Yulia Tymoshenko told journalists today.

Yulia Tymoshenko pointed out that during the flu epidemic the decision to allocate funds to battle the epidemic was made by the Verkhovna Rada. "When there was an epidemic in Ukraine, money was allocated as a whole to fight the epidemic. It was allocated by the Verkhovna Rada and the Verkhovna Rada voted on this," she said.

The ex-premier recalled that she personally, in fulfilling her official duties, supervised the implementation of comprehensive measure to battle the flu epidemic in 2009. "I want to once again prove to you how the Prosecutor General’s Office is manipulating messages. They’re saying the vaccine Tamiflu. Vaccines and Tamiflu are two different things. Tamiflu is pills, and a vaccine is a vaccine. And when they say ‘vaccine Tamiflu’ they’re creating black propaganda, black PR, and it’s parasitic. I was talking about comprehensive measures to fight the epidemic, which was important back then for us based on the requirements of the World Health Organization and Ukraine, as a member of this organization, was required to take certain protocol actions when there is an epidemic," she said.
