President Viktor Yanukovych held a meeting with Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller and Minister of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine Yuriy Boyko, presidential press office reported.
"We need to find parity solutions and build our relations based on them," Viktor Yanukovych said.
The President said he had had a conversation with his Russian colleague Dmitry Medvedev during which the sides had agreed to hold a meeting with the Gazprom CEO and discuss current issues of our cooperation. Viktor Yanukovych said he appreciates Gazprom leadership deminstrating understanding of the situation in Ukraine. Similarly, he said, the Ukrainian side understands the problems of Russia.
Viktor Yanukovych reiterated that the 2009 gas agreements "were incorrect with regard to Ukraine”."Of course, both the base price and the formula itself are in question. The formula being used for Europe does not suit Ukraine," he said.
Certainly, Viktor Yanukovych said, the price of gas for our state should be much lower compared with that for European countries, especially given the smaller distance between Ukraine and Russia and the last year’s agreements signed in Kharkiv.
"I would like us to discuss the matter today as good old partners would," Viktor Yanukovych said.
For his part, the Gazprom CEO pointed to the urgency of today's meeting, as the current dynamics of gas market in Europe, CIS countries, Russia itself is already clear.
"Today, I am ready to discuss with you the trends on the market, the factors influencing it, and all the issues in our long-term promising cooperation in gas area," Alexey Miller said.
